The Future of Hiring is Here
It’s 2018. If you’re a hiring manager and you’re still relying on a recruiter to send you candiates, you’re already obsolete.
Up until about five years ago, it made sense to let a recruiter weed through piles of generic applications and send you what they thought were the most appealing resumes. But that model is dead.
You hire new people because you have problems you need solved. You understand the problem more intimately than any recruiter ever could, even if you try carefully to articulate it to them. So aren’t you better suited to find the people you need to hire?
The interview used to be about as good as we could do. The recruiter would send a litany of candidates your way and you’d pick the most interesting ones to interview. But the best candidates today are circumventing the recruitment phase and going right into the interview.
They’re doing this by preemptively answering all those important interview questions. How? By putting content onto social media, YouTube, linkedIn, etc. The people who are taking the time to advertise themselves over the internet — to show the world what skills they’re offering — are the people you want to hire. They’re the ones taking initiative to grow personally, and they’ll be the ones that take the initiative to grow your business, too.
